3 Ways To Keep Your Glass Tub Enclosure Looking Like New

Posted on

Having a glass shower or bathtub enclosure in your home can be an excellent alternative to a traditional shower curtain. Furthermore, glass enclosures are generally seen as being more modern and updated, which can add value to your home as well. However, glass shower enclosures can also be notoriously difficult to keep clean because hard water and soak scum can easily build up on them over time. Fortunately, there are a few steps every homeowner can take to keep their shower or tub glass looking shiny and new.

Squeegee After Every Shower

One of the best ways to prevent hard water stains (aside from installing a water softener, which is expensive) is to keep hard water from settling on your shower glass in the first place. The easiest and cheapest way to do this is to invest in a squeegee that you keep in your shower. After each shower, take a couple of seconds to squeegee any excess liquid off of the glass. You can find a squeegee at your local dollar store, and some even have a built-in suction cup so you can keep it conveniently stored on your shower wall.

Spray With Windshield Glass Treatment

Another way to go about keeping your shower or tub glass clean and clear is to spray it with a windshield glass treatment, such as the kind you would use on your car before it rains. This way, when you shower, water will bead up and roll off of your glass doors rather than building up hard water or soap scum stains. You only need to spray it on the doors maybe once every few weeks, so a bottle should last you for a long time, making this another inexpensive yet effective option.

Scrub With Vinegar and Water

Even by taking preventative measures, it'll still be necessary to clean your glass every so often. When it comes time to do so, the best thing you can do is combine equal parts vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle. Spray on either side of your shower glass and allow to sit for a few minutes before rinsing off with water and drying with a clean cloth. The vinegar can combat even set-in hard water and soap scum stains, which will leave your shower or tub glass looking shiny and new once again. And, you can do all this without using any harsh chemicals in the process.

If your glass enclosure still looks worn after these tips, consider talking with a company like Glass-Pros about a replacement.
